Remote facilitation and control of simulators, in-situ simulation, using technology for assessment and feedback; and human factors training

The Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre was established in 1997 and is Australia’s oldest centre. With a strong history of innovation, research and human factors training the centre is well known nationally and internationally. Whilst simulation in an educational sense can be considered as a safe place for training and practicing new, rare, complicated and important events, it is in fact much broader. Simulation also enables systems and process review, exploration of human factors which influence decision making and teamwork, medical device testing, clinical practice assessment, stress inoculation, and research in a controlled and repeatable environment. All of these factors contribute to improvements in patient care and patient safety.

The presentation will highlight some of the projects and innovations that the centre has been involved in including: remote facilitation and control of simulators, in-situ simulation, using technology for assessment and feedback; and human factors training.
