Welcome to HISA's Aged Care Informatics SIG

Dr Lemai Nguyen (Deakin University) defines aged care informatics as a specialised branch of Health informatics that is the intersection of not only healthcare, information sciences, computer science, but also aged care research. Aged care research (also referred to as gerontic nursing research) studies a range of care services for the aged and develops knowledge of ageing and nursing of the aged.

There is great potential for technology to enhance the quality of life of older adults; such as enabling access to quality care services, extending the ability for independent living to remain in their own homes, and providing personalised, quality care to residents in aged care facilities. The HISA Aged Care Informatics SIG hosts events that present the latest research initiatives in people-centred technologies for empowered ageing and aged-care, reports on leading-edge projects and technologies, and aims to facilitate the progress of nursing information systems for better serving residents in aged care facilities.
