HISA NSW - The role of digitisation in creating a 21st century mental health system

Mental health care is becoming increasingly topical in healthcare debates across Australia. This event presents real-world examples and insights from speakers who have been involved in complex digital transformation projects and increasing digitisation of health systems to better harvest and utilise health data.

Prioritising better mental health and substance abuse care using eHealth at the World Health Organisation

Dr Christopher Lemon Medical Officer, St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney

Christopher is a junior doctor at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney with aspirations in psychiatry and health informatics. He completed a 6-week internship at the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland in the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Here, he applied his Master of Philosophy methodology to optimise strategies for analysing user experience data from the mhGAP app  - a decision support and training app designed for use primary care providers in developing countries with a significant mental illness burden.

Creating a culture of data use in NSW Mental Health Services

Damien McCaul Project Manager - Clinical Measurement & Benchmarking, InforMH

As Project Manager for the NSW Mental Health Benchmarking Program, Damien is passionate about the use of data to inform a range of important clinical and service design issues. The program has been mining data from existing data sources for a number of years to allow health providers to compare themselves on KPIs (e.g., readmission), clinical processes (e.g., use of involuntary care), client demographic and clinical outcome measures. Damien and his team are also working on some exciting proof of concept to harvest data from new sources of data such as electronic medical records, medication systems and apps, as they are being rolled out across the State.
