Looking into the future of digital health in SA
HISA SA welcome you to their first event for 2019 as we gather momentum in the state once again and we look into the future of digital health in South Australia. Hosted by the University of South Australia we will have three speakers who will provide an overview of where digital health is right now and where it is going. Following the addresses we will have an active panel discussion where attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions of the panel. The HISA SA AGM will follow directly after the event.

Louise Schaper CEO, HISA

As leader of Australia's peak body for digital health, Dr Louise Schaper, is a passionate advocate for the transformation of healthcare. As CEO of HISA she brings together world-class clinicians, researchers, innovators and organisations from across the biomedical, health and technology spectrum who are committed to the improvement of health outcomes enabled through innovation uses of technology and information. She is a facilitator, an innovator and a change agent who explores and leverages the convergence of people, systems and technologies in the transformation and future of health and medicine. 

 

 

Speaker Presentations

Professor Paddy Phillips Incoming Commissioner/ Chief Public Health Officer, SA Department for Health and Wellness

Professor Paddy Phillips PSM is the incoming Commissioner for the newly established Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health, and the Chief Public Health Officer for South Australia.  He is also State Emergency Controller (Health) for South Australia.
As Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Phillips has responsibility for health protection and licensing, communicable diseases, emergency management as well as blood, organ and tissue programs.
Other roles Professor Phillips has undertaken have been was Chief Medical Officer for SA (2008-19), Professor and Head of Medicine, Flinders University, Flinders Medical Centre and Repatriation General Hospital in Adelaide (1997-2007). He has also held senior clinical academic posts at the University of Melbourne followed by Oxford University and is Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Duke University, USA. 

 

Professor Anthony Maeder Professor of Digital Health Systems, Flinders University

Professor Anthony Maeder has an academic background in Computer Science and Software Engineering, and was formerly Research Director of the CSUIRO Australian eHealth Research Centre.  His research contributions in Digital Health include mobile and online applications, telehealth and remote monitoring, health data analysis and management, and medical imaging.  He is Co-Chair of the IMIA Working Group on Telehealth and serves on the IT-14 Health Informatics Technical Committee of Standards Australia.  

  Mark Mackay Professor in Health Service Management, BSc(Hons) BEc BComm Grad Cert (Higher Educ) PhD FACHSM

Mark is the inaugural Professor in Health Service Management at the University of South Australia (UniSA). 
He is passionate about ensuring the next generation of health care managers and leaders are able to capitalise on the developments in informatics in order to improve the health system and continue to achieve improved health outcomes. 
He has more than 25 years of experience in the application of multi-disciplinary applied research projects in various industries, including the health sector. He has a particular interest in the application of data and modelling to improve decision-making, particularly in the health sector.

Mark has spent over thirty years in the health sector, with significant experience in E-Health strategy, change, training and risk management across primary, secondary and tertiary care. Mark has provided healthcare consultancy, training and change management services in public and private health sectors in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Indonesia, England, Ireland and Wales.

Mark is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer, School of Medicine, Flinders University, where he has developed a Health Informatics course which he delivers in China, Singapore and Australia for the Master of Health Administration award, as well as lecturing in Clinical Governance and Risk Management.
