Enhancing ophthalmic service delivery for the underserved using NBN satellite
Our experience from the NBN satellite based ophthalmic care delivery to the very remote areas in WA and Queensland will be discussed. Over 1000 patients have gone through the Remote-I store-and-forward system. Most of them are diabetic patients and 6 of them had severe sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy. Based on this study, with the support from NHMRC, automated disease grading and reading of the images are being validated with high accuracy equivalent to gold standard human reading. We will also discuss a simple medical image capturing and image exchange app which is developed for the Burns Unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
